Childhood Depression Sources

1.Top 10 Drugs Prescribed to Kids Without Pediatric Labeling
    FDA Consumer; May/Jun99, Vol. 33 Issue 3, p26, 1p (Article)

This article helps me to understand that not only can social problems cause depression in a child but wrongly prescribed medicine can as well. Wrongly prescribed medicine has its results, affecting a body part that doesn't have a problem, just like a child who doesn't have depression but takes a pill. Depending on how strong the medicine is a child that takes wrongly prescribed medicine can get a variety of affects that does not only cause depression but disorders, damages to a certain body part, etc.

2. Even young kids can suffer from depression.

USA Today Magazine, Oct95, Vol. 124 Issue 2605, p14, 1/2p, 1 Black and White Photograph

This magazine gives information that describes the causes of depression differently. For instance, it infers that not only having a loved one pass away, a friend moving away, or a parents divorce can be the cause of depression, but its a cumulation of stressful events that often triggers the topic. What i also did not know, that i learned from this magazine is that a child in depression can not only express sadness to fit under the tittle childhood depression but they also express crankiness and irritability than sadness. Sometimes behind depression is improper behavior and a child is mistaken to be a bad child, but who really is a sad child.

3. Helping Kids Beat Depression

Wall Street Journal - Eastern Edition, 5/17/2011, Vol. 257 Issue 114, pD1-D4, 2p (Beck, Melinda)

This Journal Edition gives a unique and simply answer that can be logically understood but to some it might slip their mind. A mother who is depressed increases the chances of their children having depression. Basically, it gives an understanding that depression can also come genetically from the parent, uncle, or another relative. Family history also is a cause.
