Childhood Depression Sources
1.Top 10 Drugs Prescribed to Kids Without Pediatric Labeling
FDA Consumer; May/Jun99, Vol. 33 Issue 3, p26, 1p (Article)
This article helps me to understand that not only can social problems cause depression in a child but wrongly prescribed medicine can as well. Wrongly prescribed medicine has its results, affecting a body part that doesn't have a problem, just like a child who doesn't have depression but takes a pill. Depending on how strong the medicine is a child that takes wrongly prescribed medicine can get a variety of affects that does not only cause depression but disorders, damages to a certain body part, etc.
2. Even young kids can suffer from depression.
USA Today Magazine, Oct95, Vol. 124 Issue 2605, p14, 1/2p, 1 Black and White Photograph
This magazine gives information that describes the causes of depression differently. For instance, it infers that not only having a loved one pass away, a friend moving away, or a parents divorce can be the cause of depression, but its a cumulation of stressful events that often triggers the topic. What i also did not know, that i learned from this magazine is that a child in depression can not only express sadness to fit under the tittle childhood depression but they also express crankiness and irritability than sadness. Sometimes behind depression is improper behavior and a child is mistaken to be a bad child, but who really is a sad child.
3. Helping Kids Beat Depression
Wall Street Journal - Eastern Edition, 5/17/2011, Vol. 257 Issue 114, pD1-D4, 2p (Beck, Melinda)
This Journal Edition gives a unique and simply answer that can be logically understood but to some it might slip their mind. A mother who is depressed increases the chances of their children having depression. Basically, it gives an understanding that depression can also come genetically from the parent, uncle, or another relative. Family history also is a cause.

Counter Argument
I understand children are parent's responsibility. Whether a child is sad, troubled, or confused, as parents one should always have solutions to provide. But do we all have "good parents" titled above are heads? There is always that one parent who gave up on their child or even just doesn't care anymore. For example, a parent can be under an addiction of alchool or drugs and just leaves the child aside. Who cares for them then? Yes the child can be sent to foster care to aviod the danger, but is danger really the problem in this case. No, it's about having patience in order to pick up the broken pieces and help rebuild a child so they can walk into a new world.
Childhood Depression Thesis
When is sadness an option? Never! When can you assure someone help is on the way? Mostly likely you can't! When have you seen another person care for others? Only when they see an advantage can come out of it. Then you could say, I witness Childhood Depression before my eyes.

3 Appeals
- Logos: Childhood Depression can be solved by having a person's support and seeking the right help.
- Ethos: I can determine the helpful solutions based on the therapist suggestion list.
- Pathos: We should take interest in solving Childhood Depression because why should we sit calmly with our hands folded, when there is a child out there that cries for help every night but yet we sit there listening to nonsense such as television, not even bothering to look up at the sky once and ask the stars is there someone that is suffering today and can't find its way to shine.

Movie Connection
Based on the movie, The Great Debaters I can come to a conclusion that it relates to my research topic, Childhood Depression. As shown in the movie to be a great debater one must have confidence in what they're saying and be able to prove their side of the given topic. A topic can either be very emotional or attract a person's emotion. Childhood depression is both because one, who could stand seeing a child being mistreated or even feeling down and second, I think many can relate if you have your own child. The Great Debaters give an understanding that it's not about wining your opponent but unraveling the truth and give justice. Childhood depression is the same it's not about taking away custody of a child from the parent but it's about given the child care, love, and uncovering the story behind the depression.
